HOW DID MAJORING IN ENGLISH PREPARE YOU FOR YOUR CAREER?

I am a storyteller by nature, so being an English major and a journalism minor was a natural fit for me. The skills I learned in the classroom and at the Spectator – writing, editing, interviewing and photography – are skills that I use every day in my career.

HOW HAS MAJORING IN ENGLISH ENRICHED YOUR LIFE?

Not only did I learn to appreciate other people, but I also learned to appreciate each person’s story. Whether I’m reading a fascinating novel or listening to people share their personal stories, I can relate to them and their journey. Being an English major gave me that skill.

WHAT ADVICE OR INSIGHT DO YOU HAVE FOR VSU ALUMNI AND STUDENTS INTERESTED IN YOUR CAREER FIELD?

For alumni and students, I recommend embracing change and learning all that you can. The world will continuously change. It’s up to you to discover how you can change with it. Never stop learning. No matter how much knowledge you think you have, there’s always something more to learn.
